Seneca - The Cashmere Jumper

Seneca gives us three tunes of glitchy hardcore, with appropriate and tasteful sampling.
This music was composed especially for this release, in the winter of 2012/2013.

Seneca is surprised at the number of people who have mispronounced 'Seneca'. This is much less common when it comes to his real name, Alex Osmond; 27 years old and based in London. He has a beard you can set your watch by. He's dabbled in hip-hop, electro, psytrance, hardcore, speedcore and breakcore across his relatively humble musical career. He does other things, like writing and teaching. Alex recently published his first book, a practical guide to essay-writing that has garnered some great reviews; email him for more information.

Ryan Hardy - Day

The new album from Ryan Hardy. Deeper, darker, more mature. A tour around a truly individual mind. In another world, 'Oh My Stars' would be a hit record, and Ryan would be playing to thousands, smashing up expensive hotel rooms and sporting a healthy cocaine addiction, but this is perhaps too intimate for a mass audience. I thank my stars that Ryan exists. His music doesn't just entertain, his candour assists and expands me on my own trip through the galaxy. "I listened to Ryan Hardy's new album 'Day' for the first time a few nights ago. When I got to the end of the sixth and last song, I thought wistfully, "Over so soon?" I was so elated while listening that I felt a little crestfallen, but just for a moment, because my next thought was, "Well, I'll just start it over and play it through again." Which I did, and have done repeatedly in the days since.

 It's just as well that the album is short, because in its six songs it covers pretty much all of life's major topics. It expresses so much so eloquently, yet with such simplicity.
 Using simple concepts -- light/dark, sun/"heavy weather," happy/mad, space and time travel -- the songs convey the depth of human experience. In these songs, Ryan Hardy acknowledges the darker side of our psyches, the fears and despair that can beset us, yet suggests that by accepting our hopelessness, unhappiness and even madness, we can arrive at a place of calm and happiness. These songs say to me that it's unhealthy to despair of, or disavow our crazy feelings; that by facing those feelings, by putting them to use in the creation or enjoyment of music, we can conquer time and space and time-travel to a different version of the present, one that was here all along. We can see the light and feel the warmth of the sun, even on a cloudy day.
 Maybe it's just a bunch of songs about sun and clouds and being happy even when it's raining, but I hear wisdom in these seemingly simple songs. It's always the "day" of the album title; what are we going to make of it and who are we going to be in it? On your time-travel journey from your mad/sad now to your happy/calm now, this is the best "inter-galactic in-flight entertainment" you can have along for the ride.
 Like all of Ryan's work, it's disarmingly candid, liberatingly goofy and a hell of a lot of fun to listen to."

Don Trust - Tron Dust

Don Trust makes collage music that sounds like the picture above. It's clever and passionate and so, so full of colour. This is his 4th album, and to my mind the most consistent to date....in the sense of a whole album rather than a collection of songs. The tunes do stand alone, but as with many wombnet releases, the language of the music needs to be learnt, and is therefore more comprehensible heard as a whole. There's great freedom here, as we are lead through the post-impressionistic landscape of the artist's mind. Vocal and musical samples are ripped up and rearranged, but ease gracefully into rhythmic and melodic beauty. No form is sacred, and yet harmony is achieved.
....Well, I've never talked about a release that way.....what am I?...an art critic or something? ....but Don Trust's music makes me think that way. It's very bloody clever, like the other great talents of plunderphonics, but for me there's none so soulful. I recommend you grab the FLAC of this to hear it in it's full glory.

 "I've rarely had any good emails lately, just spam, but yesterday I was happy to find Peter had sent me a link to Chris Cook's new album 'The Lemniscate'.
 Chris Cook is a one man band from London, using a sitar, Laptop and various other instruments and percussion to create music which touches the outer limnits, but also sings true to traditional styles of the east and west.
 This album is predominately vocal driven. Mood-wise it's beautiful, bleak and motivational. From The opening track, which sounds like a bizarre cover version of The Omen theme tune, you know it's going be heady and take you on a trip. 'Two Squared' has a folk feel to it but soon develops into a song about status anxiety, He sings "Take everything, take me offline, put me in a frame so big that it sets me free'" & "A breath of fresh air, not too daunting, not too dense" .. Lovely layering of vocals harmonies here, beautiful stuff .. The Gospel According To Dale pops and click's along rhythmically with cinematic piano and strange chord sequences that create an unusual atmosphere, very bleak, Made me imagine a menacing monster in the dessert coming after you.
 A bit of lightness peaks it's head up 'Stay on Course' is a somewhat motivational skit, a bit more conventional than the other tracks on this album but every bit as intriguing as the others due to Chris's use of unusual melodic structure. In 'Stand up' Chris sings humbly "I should be happy with what I’ve got, Stand up and take a deep breath" then he seems to loose the plot, head falling facedown on the organ while his laptop takes over with a mind of its own. Dub beats with manic hand claps trundle along skittering and flickering, ignoring the fact that Chris's head is facedown on the organ keys. I can't help think this song deals with some frustation issues.
 To sum up, this a moving and interesting album in which the once prevalent sitar takes a backseat to a voice, which sing's about the difficulties of coping with our existence but seeking positive way forward though music and ritual."

Jared C. Balogh - Silent Anticipation

'Silent Anticipation' is the new album from Jared C. Balogh, here, free to download as FLAC or 320kbps MP3. 5 tunes of sudden beauty, hinting more at Stravinsky than Coltrane, with the occasional nod to complex prog of the early 1970s. Natural sounds in impossible combinations. This is an unusual album, and if you know my podcast you'll know I don't say that lightly. It's sometimes lyrical and sometimes challenging, depending on the mood of the listener. Like all wombnet releases, this music could only have been made by this person, at this time.

Jared C. Balogh is from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He formed this project in July 2010, applying a jazz ideology to a classical framework. This music is made entirely with software. What's happening with the wombnet website?

I've been a lot more musically active lately, and the wombnet website, which I originally consolidated to make less work for me, has become unwieldy, so I've split it into 3. This one, 'wombnet.com', will be just for the netlabel. My podcast, 'Eclectic Music For Mind And Bodhi', has moved to it's own blogspot, but as usual can easily be reached at the address 'www.peternelson.org'. My new reggae show 'Dandelion Roots' also has it's own blog here: http://dandelionradioroots.blogspot.co.uk. There will be no further posts at this blog about my podcasts. Label business only. Snail Bob - Unshellfish

Snail Bob makes music in his own terms. One might call this 'noise' or 'deconstructed punk', but as is so often the case with individual music, which I define as "could only have been made by this person, at this time", I struggle to give labels to this sound art. Actually, on second thoughts, this is a blues album.

Considering how sparse and sometimes aggressive the music, this is a surprisingly melodic and soulful collection. From the strangled rage of the Waitsian opener 'Angry People' to the amorphous soundscapes of the second half, this album expresses a wide range of musical and emotional states. S'Bob names Pink Floyd and The Residents as primary influences. Sounds about right.

The big news this month is that I've started a new all Reggae Show on Dandelion Radio, provisionally called 'Dandelion Roots'.
I buy and listen to lot's reggae these days, and I've been playing it live for 4 years with my mate Gaz as 'Dub In The Pub' in Brighton UK. George warms up, I play to open the heart, and Gaz follows with the heavy bass. Resistance is futile. We are regularly joined by I Lodica on vocals and melodica. We are a dance outfit. Between us, we have decades of experience making people boogie.

I hear so much good new reggae music and re-issues of hard to find classics, that I want another outlet to share it. Hence 'Dandelion Roots'. I'll be focusing on solid dance tunes, but also the unusual, the sort of thing I might be reluctant to play on a night out, but would suit the DR ethos.

I have a lifelong relationship with reggae. I was 18 in 1981. Punk was over. Reggae was the rebel music of my generation, and it was also our dance music.
I lived for most of my youth in urban mixed communities, in the UK, where it was ubiquitous. It was later in my life that I came to realise the spirituality within the music. It often sings of suffering, but it feels life affirming. It sings of injustice, but affirms our self determination and the freedom of the spirit. It also sings of our friend and ally Mary. Hallelujahgobble. Despite the mask of christian imagery, it is at heart animistic, and indeed the rhythms are connected to ancient African rituals for invoking deities. The roots of reggae are the roots of us all, not just Africans. It sings of the Natural Man, the upright and humble man. No wonder that reggae has spread all over the world; it speaks to a need within us all, to remember how connected we really are...to each other, yes, but also to nature.

We are at home, and never left the garden.

23ID - Kung Flu

A stunning collection of 5 tunes from 23ID, solo project of Karol Bujalski from Warsaw. With a long background in experimental music as a youth and with Polish exp/elec combo 'Wrenched Dandies', and under this name since 2005, his music is intelligent and satisfying strongly rhythmic IDM. As the name suggests, it's infused with discordian sensibilities. It is often unsettling, like the strident opening to this work, but there are also passages of intense beauty. Finely balanced, in an unbalanced way.

The vivid artwork is by Bernard Luc.

This free album represents some themes in 23ID's work over the recent past, and serves both as an introduction and as a prelude to a commercial release of current material later this year.

I often wonder about the role of the radio DJ on the internet. The comforting voice from the little box is a thing of the past, and websites...your phone...gives you more information than a person can say. I can't stand the way some DJs sound like they are in the club...which mean's that you are not...in...the club. "I got this tune the artist sent me...I got it free but you sfuckers gotta pay". Any of you know what I mean? Are you "not in the gang"? Neither am I.

This month's Eclectic Music For Mind And Bodhi on Dandelion Radio is well worth a listen...but of course I think that. Honestly though, I'm amazed at the new music I find every day. Something you must hear immediately is Red River by Tickle on Black Lantern Records. It's a superb catchy, punchy anti-mcshiteburgerdisneyetc rant.

Also on the subject of monstrous appetite is an interesting mugabe from a collection of East/Central European experimental electronica 'Eastern Daze' from Audiotong.

Grab this now! 'Modluv' by Sans Blanc. I know nothing about them. It's a great album. Dada.

One last thing...I want to mention a couple of my favourite reggae releases of last year. Check out this beautiful bit of atonal spongy dancehall from Angie Angel-How You Feeling.

Also Natalie Storm with Dreadsquad-Beat That Chest. Bit of a surprise, that one. It's from a collection of Sleng Teng remixes on Superfly Records...in Poland. Yup. Great tune. Promptly followed by a load more remixes in December, none of which cut it.

Eclectic Music for Mind And Bodhi on Dandelion Radio

Some time ago I contracted all my and Sarah's websites into one...this one. Sarah hasn't been actively involved for a while. I don't like web work much. You won't find me on Arsebook, Myspaz or Twatter. I couldn't be bothered maintaining it all, as I have a life. I don't own a mobile phone, because I'm always where the party is. No shat-nav for the same reason.

My point is, my podcast is definitely back, for the time being, and broadcast on Dandelion Radio. New shows monthly, plus a few specials. All details at the Dandelion Radio website. I have to do enough paperwork for them, and I'm not going to do any more here. Tracklistings there too. I might update my own at some point, but right now I can see no good reason to.

My main focus on my show at the moment is free netlabels. I truly believe that the avant garde in sound art now resides there. The last hiding place from the the corruption of capitalism is to give it away. Without money, we exchange energy freely and The Man doesn't get his cut.

Live free in the midst of a bondage factory!

I alway used to go to great lengths to make myself easy to reach. I communicated a lot. I was one of the first podcasters to put up active links in tracklistings...oh, years ago...you take that for granted now, dont'cha? I kept multiple websites running...vigorously supported many artists, being as clear and effective as I could. What I think I know now is that the niche audience I'm aiming at will find me, will hunt me in the same way that I hunt for music. Because they give a shit about art that feeds the soul.

Eclectic Music For Mind And Bodhi is me, hunting and presenting music that I believe is good for the soul. It is honest, or direct, or abandoned, or surpassing beautiful, or the ugliest beauty, or entirely new to my ears, or archetypal, or spacious, or full. Dada as a whole.

Eclectic Music For Mind And Bodhi Returns, At Least For Today

I've done a show for Dandelion Radio that will be transmitted throughout November 2011. It's a stream, not download, and it's a staggered schedule, so it's not the same time everyday. You can find it here:

I continue to have issues with the contrast between how personal the internet appears to be and how impersonal it really is. Sometimes I think that internet relationships are like trying to cuddle a crocodile. However, I don't want to run away from the web. Such a good name, 'web'. Sticky. It's all pervasive for now, and trying to avoid it entirely would be overly stressful. My goal here is to learn to reap the potentially enormous benefits of the internet without losing my soul. As Kris K said, "I ain't sayin' I beat the devil, but I drank his beer for free". I'm right behind ya, dude.

Ryan Hardy-Heavy Mandolin

Recently, Ryan sent me his new album "A Cup Of Tea". His music continues to amaze me. You can hear some of his new work at his website. Here's a teaser Oh My Stars. I suggested it might be a good thing to publish his album from last year, "Heavy Mandolin" as a new wombnet release. He agreed. These tunes were previously available on itunes, in fact, Reinforced Concrete Monsters reached number 28 in Dandelion Radio's Festive 50. Now the album is free, and distributed through wombnet and the FMA.

I think Ryan is a good example of the intensely hybrid nature of today's sounds. (Of course, music has always been a mix of roots, and it's only really a matter of degree.) I can hear Howard Devoto, Noel Coward, Ivor Cutler, John Shuttleworth, Robert Wyatt, Tim Blake, Syd Barrett, Lesley Sarony, Steve Howe, Captain Sensible, Neil Innes, John Otway...

Reinforced Concrete Monsters is a punk classic. Surely the old man at the beeb would have loved it. Ryan's music is gloriously crazy. I'm proud to support art that is fundamentally joyous and celebratory of life.

I asked a few people what they thought about Heavy Mandolin. This is what they said:

Charlie Lewis of WFMU Radio said "I'm so glad he picked up that mandolin. I really admire someone who can be so uninhibited and unabashedly loony and honest and so creative all at once. Usually only children can manage that, but without the skills".

Rob Da Bank of BBC Radio1 said "Ah, now here's something fresh and a bit weird. Never quite sure where this one's gonna end up but some fantastic songs and ideas here."

Coseyhead is still alive

Hello again music lovers. 6 months since my last post. How about that. I wouldn't say time flies, for that would give an impression of business. Lurches, perhaps.

I'm still involved with music. I've been playing live in Brighton. In fact, I did a set at the last Wrong Music event in May. Dub In The Pub is now monthly at the Gladstone pub....that's the yellow one near the Lewes rd roundabout. Ok...that's a bit local isn't it. Most of you who read this have never been to Brighton and never will, so you've no idea what I'm talking about. Not local....I worry about that... I suspect humans, like all other animals, go insane when removed from local concerns. Nevertheless, here I am in cyberspace. It's a compulsion to share, like a really good crap. I'm still making mixes, and have a couple to share with you.

This is Coseyhead, an inner me. The photo is of an unnamed Australian.
This is very different from my previous mixes because it developed as a live set.
For best effect, play very loud in a public place. Reggae. Definitely.

Next is a message from Coseyhead concerning the death of the mythical personality to make way for a more unified consciousness. The picture below is a painting of a still from Fritz Lang's 1924 film "Siegfried". It shows his death at the hand of a former friend, in this case symbolic of understanding the true nature of ego, a snake in the garden indeed.

It's relatively chilled out. Medium to quiet volume. Be high. Definitely.

This is my first mix made with Ableton. Software can be such fun, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Hello Music Lovers
Estranged as I am from t'internet, I nevertheless thought it appropriate to update the wombnet site. I don't know if there will be any more releases. Neither Sarah nor I are inclined to web work anymore. I've still got a toe in the music world...I'm still making mixes and I hope to do a few gigs this year, but I'm done with maintaining an online persona. However, the one thing I can be sure of is that all things change. Dust in the wind, dude...

"Coseyhead Presents" contains links and tracklistings for various mixes under my DJ name. There's a couple of new ones you might not have heard.


Pearls is, perhaps, volume one of the best of The Peter Nelson Show, containing some of my most cherished tunes from the last 5 years. It started as a mix for my friend Ryan, who'd never heard my show but showed an interest in Mashcore.

I always intended to make this mp3 available 'cos it went rather well. I edited it slightly for art's sake. Dub In The Pub may return this summer.

Same Actor-Kraftspiel

Chris Cook, aka Same Actor lives in noisy London. He's been making electronic music of all kinds for many years since his electronic music degree and operates under the names Remote and Hot Roddy, playing sitar along with electronic jiggery pokery. In 2004, Cook also started to play gigs as Same Actor, using various stringed instruments building up soundscapes using no pre recorded or pre sequenced material, but playing with alternative tuning systems and unusual rhythms.

"Kraftspiel" is Chris's tribute to the famed German electro-pop band Kraftwerk, comprising his distinctive interpretations of four classic cuts. The original iconoclasm of the band is here emphasised by being reworked on an instrument usually associated with rigid classical forms.
